How Should I Know About Infertility Causes?

Coping with infertility is one of the serious challenges that a couple faces. One out of seven couples is childless and the numbers are growing. Infertility has become a huge concern for so many couples in India and all over the world due to a number of factors. Infertility affects both partners and there are various underlying causes, in some cases, the cause remains unknown. However, nowadays effective treatments and alternative options are also available to couples to explore their chances of conception.

In the contemporary modern world, people have adopted sedentary and unhealthy lifestyle choices thus creating problems in their reproductive system. Childlessness and infertility are no longer private sorrows. It is believed that 10% of the general population suffers from some form of infertility. Some of the infertility causes are described as:

Endometriosis: is a condition wherein the tissue lining inside the uterus grows outside – most commonly in the pelvic cavity, which can cause cysts and adhesions and in some cases can fuse organs together. It affects around 20-30 percent of women and its symptoms are painful periods, irregular and/or heavy periods, pain during intercourse, diarrhoea or constipation, fatigue and nausea. Infertility is a common side effect. Many women wanting to get pregnant in such a situation can undergo advanced fertility treatment like In vitro fertilisation (IVF). IVF work wonders for most women and the effectiveness of such treatment is highly individualized.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome: You didn\’t hear so much about polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) earlier.
Nowadays, it is one of the most common hormonal endocrine disorders in women and leads to female infertility. It is estimated that 5%-10% of all women of childbearing age will develop PCOS. Diagnosis is made by an ultrasound scan, which shows the cysts, and by blood tests that detect hormone levels. Treatment for PCOS can help you look and feel better and even help you with fertility issues.

Uterine Fibroids: Generally, fibroids are benign tumors that originate in the uterus (womb) and typically found during the middle and later reproductive years. They can range in number and size from a single growth to multiple growths, and from very small to large. I usually see a lot of women who have fibroids and some of the fibroids can impact fertility. Though majority of women with uterine fibroids achieve normal pregnancy outcome, a lot many require treatment such as surgical option is available to remove fibroids. Larger fibroids can be removed with a larger incision or with a laparoscopy.

Blocked or Damaged Fallopian Tubes: About 20 per cent of female infertility suffers from problems related to blocked or damaged fallopian tubes. Blockage of tubes prevents the mature egg to reach to the uterus, and the sperm thus causes obstruction in fertilization and pregnancy. In vitro Fertilization is one of the most common treatment options for women to achieve pregnancy despite having tubal problems.
